Comments on: Of those drunk hooligans last night…

You know, I read this entry and remembered what we had here in Ukraine in the end of 2004.
I was among people gathereing at the squares and protesting against president election. Everyday when I was going to stand there in the crowd I was expecting that this time some distruction may begin. I mean people wouldn’t be patient no more… But! I noticed that crowd was “self-organizing” itself. I mean if there was noticed someone drunk, shouting and being too active common men and women were cooling him down. And that is a well known quality of behavior in crowd.
What I am leading to is that these actions in Beograd were organized. I mean that it couldn’t happen if those people who made a damage to city’s centre were simple drunk-heads. I don’t live in Serbia, so don’t know who would get benefit from such actions, but I am pretty sure that it was planned and was made not randomly, but for some reason.

e pa nije u redu da tako pljujes klinca
bez ikakvog znANJA…
da je bila glupost sto su uradili jeste..
ali nije bio pijan mali ko sto velis…
i debilno je sto su to uradili ali njega makar mogu razumeti odakle takav bes i takvo glupo ponasanje..
on je proteran sa kosova bio..
pricaas sa toliko emocija o mkdonaldsu
ko da ti je druga kuca bio
e pa razmisli koliko bi stalozena bila da te je neeko isterao iz kuce i pritom verovatno maltretirao u periodu pre ili dok si odlazio..
da li bi bila razumna ??
citajuci tvoj blog ne bi reko…
sem tog komentara za njega se slazem sa postom..
a i onaj sto veli policija scenirala
to je jos jedna glupost..
najbolje da su isli i koordinirali..
i policajci su ljudi..
pritom ako nisu bili vecina nisu verovatno hteli da rizikuju svoje dupe radi toga da spasu neciju ambasadu i slicno..
daleko od toga da je to opravdano ali je realno..
cinjenica je da je bilo oko 1000 huligana u tom momentu (napad na americku ambasadu)
bilo je 50 nindza kornjaca u ulici pored…
verovatno jednostavno nisu hteli da rizikuju sebe a i verujem da je medju njima bilo ljutih koji su namerno ignorisali neke stvari..

sve u svemu zanimljiv ti je blog…
ali mi nije jasnos to si toliko negativna u postovima

I’ve been wondering what you would say about this. It’s not a just separation since it defies the sovereignty of the Serbian gov’t. The sovereignty of a country is contingent upon the recognition it receives from other countries. So, I can fully understand why they’d want to destroy the American embassy out of rage, since embassies are not considered part of Serbian territory but their own territory. There is, however, no excuse to destroying other embassies who have not voiced their opinion on this matter. And destroying McDonald’s is just a dimwitted act.

I am sure the mobs were initially comprised of those who understand the political implications of the matter. But as more people join in, it just became a riot for riot’s sake. That is just the nature of mob mentality.

It’s a very sad sight.

I’ve been longing to read your views on the matter for several days now (no life when the Internet was available, no Internet when my life was available :p). It’s always enlightening to know things from someone that is already there. I totally empathise with you (surprise-surprise) and (casually :p). I’m very proud (well, it’s a way of speaking) of the decision my country and my boyfriend’s have taken on the issue. I still have some hope and think things can still be talked over. I’m so naïve sometimes… I just really want you to leave in peace, without annoying hooligans around and without stupid reasons for them to play the fool.

Nemam reci za tu gomilu gluposti. Evo, cujem da su uhapsili te dve glupacice… Hodaju uokolo u zlatnim jaknicama i skupim ‘farkama’ i kao su siromasne? Ma daaaj…

A sad koliko tu politike ima ili nema… Brat moje drugarice sa fakulteta je bio u Beogradu, i video je nekog momka kako baca kamen na neku kucu, ne znam tacno. Prisao mu je policajac i rekao, “Decko, rekao sam da bacas na ONU stranu, ne tamo gde si ti bacio…”
Pa ti vidi da li je sve bilo iscenirano ili ne.

U svakom slucaju, najvece smo budale sto krademo sopstvenu drzavu i saljemo nadasve negativnu poruku svetu, dok pokusavamo da se prikazemo kao zrtve ili sta li vec. Ugh.

The saddest thing is… The guy who died in US embassy was Serbian refugee from Kosovo. Contrary to the popular belief, many Serbs had to leave Kosovo, their homeland, in 1999 and never got back. This young man’s grandmother was killed by Albanians and he had to get away with the rest of his family. While I don’t see burning an embassy as a good thing, his anger and despair could be understandable.

It’s those idiots who live safe with their families and do not know anything about their country or history, but hate Americans/Albanians/Croatians – those idiots make me mad. Go educate yourself, learn your own history. Do not destroy a beautiful building that belongs to your city just because McDonald’s is located inside, or steal sneakers and set trash bins on fire just because you’re angry.
